The scientists estimate that the cedar is 3000 to 7000 years old, this 16-meter-trunk old cedar is the symbol of Yakushima.
Jomon is the name of the earliest era in Japan’s history, and as the cedar has been growing since the era,
it is so named by people with awe. It really makes a dignified divine atmosphere.
Tourists have to walk 8 to 10 hours for a round-trip to see the Jomon Cedar,
so they must have a perfect plan and prepare necessary equipment in advance.
In order to protect the cedar, Tourists are only allowed to see it from a deck ten several meters away.
The long way of walk is a monotonous approach, but the purpose is to see the cedar.
Access and Getting Around
By bus
4 or 5 buses on the island. Miyanoura⇔(40 minutes)⇔Anpo Port⇒(10 minutes)⇔Yakushima Nature Building
⇔Shuttle bus(6 round-trip buses leave early in the morning,and arrive in the afternoon.)⇔(35minutes)
⇔Arakawa Mountain Entrance⇔Jomon Cedar long-walk course 8 to 10 hours.
By car
5 km from Anpo Port to Yakushima Nature Building for 10 minutes ⇒the same routs as approach by bus.
