Mount Fuji Area

Mount Fuji area is a volcanic area including the highest peak Mount Fuji (3,776m) and five lakes, Fuji Five Lakes formed by the Mount Fuji eruption. Along the Hakone, it is designated as the Fuji-Hakone National Park, which makes one of the famous Japanese resorts for its convenience to get from Tokyo and attracts a large number of tourists throughout the year.

 

 

Access and Getting Around

As for the Mount Fuji sightseeing, two sightseeing routes are available, both by car or bus, but using a shuttle bus is better because general vehicles are regulated in a mountain climbing season. Lake Yamanakako and Lake Kawaguchiko play a key role of resort around Fuji Five Lakes and are the bases of lodging facilities and public transport. Otsuki Station of the JR Chuo Line is convenient in case of taking a train, and Kawaguchiko Station is the gate for JR and private railways. Among other JR stations available, Gotenba Station is available, transfer is necessary, so it is not so convenient considering time. Direct buses from the metropolis are really convenient. As for the car, Tomei Expressway Gotemba Exit in the southern part and Chuo Expressway, Kawaguchiko Exit in northern part are available. Taking a tour bus at Kawaguchiko Station is a convenient tour course. Because Mount Fuji area is vast, using a rental car is recommended.

By train

Shinjuku Station, Tokyo—(The JR Chuo Line limited express) 1 hour—Otsuki Station—(the Fuji Express Line) 50 minutes—Kawaguchiko Station.

Tokyo Station—(the Tokaido Line) 1 hour 15 minutes—Kozu Station—(the Gotenba Line) 1 hour—Gotenba Station—by bus—Lake Yamanaka, Lake Kawaguchi.

By bus

bus services from Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Shizuoka, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka and so on are available. Especially, buses start from Shinjuku Station are quite frequent. JR buses start from Tokyo Station.
