The bereaved citizens who lost relatives and acquaintances in the atomic bomb float hand-made paper lanterns
into the river for a memorial service
which is the beginning of the event called Floating of Lanterns, and not only the Japanese participates
but people from various countries come here and float paper lanterns with messages for peace written on them
into the river.
About 10,000 paper lanterns from several places of six rivers are put into the river.
Would you like to participate in the event if you have the chance to be in Hiroshima on the night of August 6?
After a month from the atomic bomb in Hiroshima, from the burnt bookstore of his uncle’s, Tatsuo Yamamoto
moved the flame by wrapping it to his pocket body warmer and took it to his home in Hoshino Village in Fukuoka Prefecture.
It remained there still lit.
Now it is inherited in Hoshino Village and continues being carefully preserved as “the fire to pray for peace”
in “the Tower of the Peace” after having been preserved in the Yamamoto family for 23 years.
During the Floating of Lanterns with Peace Message organizers get the flame from the Tower of the Peace
to Hiroshima every year. Visitors can light a candle from the brought flame.
Isn’t it an amazing, sad and touching story?
