Mount Bandai is a volcano located in the center of Fukushima Prefecture, which is a symbolic mountain in the area. At the foot of the mountain, there is a big lake called Inawashiro and Aizuwakamatsu City which was once the war field of the Boshin War at the end of the Edo period. Urabandai-kogen is located in the north of Mount Bandai, where there about 200 lakes and marshes and the hiking on the trail of the lakeside from spring to fall is enjoyable. Lodging facilities such hotels, inns and pensions are available.
Access and Getting Around
Inawashiro Station is the base of the Bandai mountainous area, trains of the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo can get to Inawashiro Station via the JR Banetsu-saisen Line at Koriyama Station. Drive a car on the Bandai Expressway and change the route at Inawashiro Bandai Exit.
By train
1 hour 40 minutes from Tokyo to Koriyama Station with 3 trains per hour, transfer the JR Banetsu-saisen Line to Inawashiro Station for 45 minutes, 1 train per hour.
By bus
30 minutes from Inawashiro Station to Urabandai-kogen bus stop with 6 buses per day. 30 minutes from Inawashiro Station to Goshikinuma-irikuchi bus stop with 11 buses per day.
By car
3 hours 20 minutes from Tokyo, 20minutes from Aizuwakamatsu City.
In case of driving a car, walking on the shoreline of Lake Inawashiro to Aizuawakamatsu City is interesting too.
