Owakudani is the crater trace of a mountain collapse caused by the eruption
of a volcano approximately 3,000 years ago.
There is a trail now in the mountain where smoke containing hydrogen sulfide
gets out of many places.
Visitors can observe the state of the dynamic activity of a volcano on seeing emitting gas
blow up white smoke with their eyes.
＊It is forbidden now to enter because of the active volcanoes.
Access and Getting Around
It is possible to get by bus, but it is recommended that visitors take a cable car at Gora Station
of Hakone Mountain Climbing Railway,
if so, Mount Fuji looks big.
It takes 1 hour from Hakone Yumoto Station to Gora Station by the Hakone Mountain Climbing Line,
then transfer to Owakudani by Hakone cable car.
