The two waterfalls are at the upper side of Urauchi River, the longest river in Okinawa Prefecture.
A sightseeing boat is used as a jungle cruise from the boarding spot near the entrance of the river
to the Gunkaniwa Rock (Destination: 8 km upward from the boarding spot), then walking to the waterfall.
A promenade is built from the Gunkaniwa Rock to the Maryudu Waterfall or to the Kanpire Waterfall,
where even a child can walk on easily.
Approximately three hours are necessary just to have a round-way tour seeing the two waterfalls,
but in case of having a leisure time on the Kanpire Waterfall, more than three hours are needed.
The Maryudo is a huge waterfall of 16 meters high drop, 20 meters wide (three steps)
and a huge basin of 130 meters diameter,
which is the representative waterfall of Iriomote Island.
The Kanpire Waterfall is located at the spot of the upper side (the inner part is 700 meters long) about a 15-minute walk
from the Observatory of Maryudo Waterfall.
The figure of small waterfalls flowing continuously and gently through several steps of the rocks is really magnificent.
The waterfall outskirts become the suitable place for playing in the water particularly in summer.
In addition, on the stream bed, the stones collected in the hollow are turned around by a flow of the water softly,
and round columnar holes which are called the Boat Hole are seen.
