It was a small dining hall next to the flying ground of the Special Attack Unit in World War II.
It was a dining hall for the young kamikazes who would die in the attack and a woman called Torihama
who took care of the young kamikazes until the end of the war.
The belongings and photos of them are displayed here.
Just next to it was Tomiya Ryokan (inn) built to offer staying facilities to the family members of the kamikazes.
It has been opening by now. Hotaru means fireflies.
A certain kamikaze said he would become a firefly and come back before taking off,
then he really became a firefly and came after scattering in the south sea.
The anecdote is the origin of the name. The runway of the flying ground has become a beautiful field.
The blue sky opened to the endless distance when I visited there.
I imagined that the pilots saw the same sky at that time.
The flying ground is 1 km to the east of the museum.
