Ogasawara Islands
小笠原諸島

Far south islands:

There is a Japanese world natural heritage in such a remote place 1,000 kilometers to the south of Tokyo. The total land area of Japan is the sixty-first in the world, while its sea area is the sixth, a real marine nation. In fact, Japan is a large country. The  Ogasawara Islands are archipelagos surrounded by azure seas with the splendid scenes of various natural subtropical features, which may be called the paradise of the Pacific. No flights are available to get, so have a one full day tour by ship. However, it is the island that is worth becoming the World Natural Heritage. It is such an island that once you have a tour on it, you do not want to come back to Tokyo. It is pleasant to enjoy various marine sports such as boating, canoeing, diving, snorkel and dolphin or whale watching. It is better and more efficient to have a team tour. Chichi-jima Island and Haha-jima Island are the basic tourist spots of the Ogasawara Islands.

Access and Getting Around

The Ogasawara Islands are from Takeshiba Pier in Tokyo to Futami Port in Chichi-jima Island via Izu Islands for one day. A ship starts from Takebashi Pier at 10 a.m., reaches Futami Port at 11:30 a.m. the following day, which takes 25 hours 30 minutes. The ship start from Futami Port at 15:30, reaches Takeshiba Pier at 14:00 the following day. Takeshiba Pier is 7 minutes away from JR Hamamatsucho Station on foot, or Takeshiba Station of the Yurikamome Line from Shimbashi Station.

Bus service on the island

A bus runs between Futami Port and Kominato with a round trip bus per hour. A free ticket for one day is convenient. Though a rental bicycle can be used, it is not recommended because the road on the island is undulating. Rental motorcycles and car are also available, but they are not so many.
