Playing with dune:

The Tottori Sand Dunes are coastal sand dunes in a very large grit place of 2.4 km from north to south, 16 km from east to west on the shore of the Sea of Japan of prefectural seat Tottori City of Tottori Prefecture. It is the biggest in Japan as the dune suitable for sightseeing. It is 50 meters high somewhere and is slippery, so going down the dune with lift freely and running around is pleasant for tourists. In addition, the activities such as a sandboarding, a hang glider, the paraglider are popular on a very large dune. And the lights on the cuttle fishing boats can be seen in summer.

Access and Getting Around

The Sea of Japan side of the Chugoku region generally does not have convenient transportation,

and no Shinkansen lines are available, which is a bit inconvenient to get from other big cities of Japan,

but a limited express train runs Tottori City from the Kansai area.

The number of bus services is so few, but there is a nonstop bus from Tokyo, Kansai area and Hiroshima.

A direct flight from Tokyo to Tottori Airport is available, which is convenient.

It is 7 km from Tottori Sand Dunes to Tottori Station, and it takes 20 minutes by bus with 2 to 3 bus services per hour.

Get off at the Tottori Sand Dune Hall. In addition, a rental bicycle is used to go around.

By train

2 hours 10 minutes from Kyoto Station to Tottori Station by the JR Sanin Line with 1 train per 2 hours;
1 hour 50 minutes from Okayama Station with 1 train per hour.

By bus

10 hours from Tokyo to Tottori Station, a night bus per day.
2 hours 50 minutes from Osaka to Tottori Station with 4 bus services per day.
Other bus services from Kyoto, Himeji, Hiroshima and Fukuoka are available.

By plane

1 hour 10 minutes from Tokyo Haneda with 5 flights a day.
A 20-minute bus ride from Tottori Airport to Tottori Station with 5 buses per day.

By car

3 hours from Kyoto Station. 2 hours from Himeji Station.
