Traditional beauty of Japan:

Takayama is a town among the mountains and has the biggest forest in Japan. It is the central city of Hida region in the northern part of Gifu Prefecture, where the culture utilizing the wood resources of the government controlled area of the Shogunate in the Edo period developed. In addition to the scene of the castle town which was developed in the old times, it is a historic town where the history and tradition of the strong power of the merchants, the old cityscape of the merchants and Takayama festival have been continuing.

 

Access and Getting Around

Takayama City is a famous tourist spot in Chubu Region, though far away from other regions, its public transport is convenient. Takayama railway station is available. Direct bus services are convenient too. An inheritance circulation bus from the Kanazawa city via Shirakawago is convenient. Going around the downtown by rental bicycle or on foot is enough, yet city buses are available too.

By train

1 hour 50 minutes from Tokyo Station to Nagoya Station by the Tokaido Shinkansen Line, then to Takayama Station for 2 hours 20 minutes by the Takayama Line with 1 bus per hour.

By bus

5 hours 30 minutes from Shinjuku Station in Tokyo with 7 buses per day;

5 hours 30 minutes from Osaka Station with 3 buses per day ;

2 hours 15 minutes from Kanazawa Station with 4 buses per day.

By car

4 hours 45 minutes from Tokyo Station.

2 hours from Nagoya Station.
