Gunkanjima Island
軍艦島

  • Historic Sites

Its official name is Hashima Island which looks like a warship seen from the distant.

Gunkan means warship in Japanese. It is 19 km away from Nagasaki Port,

which was prosperous for the coal mines with the population of 5300 at the peak time,

but it has become an uninhabited island since all coal mines were closed in 1974.

Tourists have been continuing to come to see the unique scene.

Cruisers are available to land. Five travel agents operate cruises.

Access and Getting Around

Take a tour vessel from Nagasaki Port for about 40 minutes.

An introduction to the travel agents are prepared at the information center of Nagasaki Station.
