Yamagata City is prefectural seat located in the center of Yamagata Prefecture and is metropolis of administration and the traffic. Around it is a very large rural district, and a farm belt where much fruit is cultivated. The eastern part is a mountainous area by the Ou mountains range and the central part is a basin, which makes a big difference of hot and cold and an intense change, so it is hot in summer and cold in winter of the inland climate. In the suburb is Yama-dera Temple and a ski resort, which offers abundant sources of tourism.

It is accessible by train via the Yamagata Shinkansen, or by plane via Yamagata Airport from Tokyo.

By train

1 hour 45 minutes from Tokyo to Yamagata Station with 1 train per 30 minutes.

By bus

5 hours 30 minutes from Tokyo Station by night bus. 30 minutes from Yamagata Airport by shuttle bus.

By car

1 hour 15 minutes from Sendai Station.

By plane

1 hour from Haneda Airport in Tokyo to Yamagata Airport with two flights per day. Other flights from Osaka, Nagoya and Sapporo.
