The home of Cranes and Samurai residences:

The city is located in the northwest of Kagoshima Prefecture.There is a famous tideland where a lot of cranes (in numbers and kinds) spend the winter, about 10,000 cranes are watched every winter now. It is a sacred place for bird watchers. In addition, grand samurai residences are still remaining in the town. It is pleasant that surrounding farmers accept the farm homestay users.

Access and Getting Around

It is one of the stations of the Kyushu Shinkansen, so it is convenient to reach it by train.

The tideland is on the shoreline 13 km away from Izumi Station. It is a pity that no public transportations are available, so you may take a tour bus with Japanese guideline only or go there by car.

By train

1 hour 15 minutes from Hakata Station in Fukuoka by the Kyushu Shinkansen with 1 train per hour;

35 minutes from Kumamoto Station by the Kyushu Shinkansen with1 train per hour;

25 minutes from Kagoshima Chuo Station by the Kyushu Shinkansen with 1 train per hour.

By bus

1 hour 20 minutes from Kagoshima Airport with 1 bus per hour.

By car

1 hour 30 minutes from Kumamoto Station, 1 hour 45 minutes from Kagoshima Station.
