The Volcano Science Museum:

Lake Toya is the third largest caldera lakes in Japan. There are a new volcano or the volcano which erupted ten years ago and hot springs around Lake Toya, therefore we may call it the Volcano Science Museum. Lake Toya is cool in summer and warm in winter, so it has been a resort area since the ancient, and was once designated as the convention of the Summit Meeting. It offers enough lodging facilities. Limited express trains stop at Toya Station. Tourists may enjoy a short stay while getting around Hokkaido.

 

Access and Getting Around

There are frequent buses between JR Toya Station and the hot spring resort town.

By train

1 hour and 55 minutes from JR Sapporo Station, a train for every one hour
2 hours and 25 minutes from Hakodate Station, a train for every one hour

By bus

2 hours and 45 minutes from JR Sapporo Station, four round-trip buses per day

By car

2 hours from JR Sapporo Station
2 hours and 30 minutes from JR Hakodate Station
