Miyajima is a small island in the west of Hiroshima, and there is one of the representatives shrines Itsukushima Shrine of Japan which is registered to the World Heritage. It is the island that has been deified as the island where gods live to the Japanese for a long time. In addition, it is also well- known for red leaves. It is 25 km away from Hiroshima, not so far, so many people visit the island where the accommodations are also available.

Access and Getting Around

There are no bridges to Miyajima Island, vessels are the main way to get to the island. Because it is close to Hiroshima, JR trains and cruises are used to get to Miyajima. Seeing the light of Itsukushima Shrine on a night cruise is strongly recommended. Besides the shrine, hiking on the Mount Misen is also worth recommending.

By train and vessel 

25 minutes from Hiroshima Station to Miyajima-kuchi Station by the JR Sanyo Line or from Atomic Bomb Dorm to Miyajima-kuchi Station by the Hiroshima Dentetsu train for 50 minutes, then to Miyajima for 10 minutes by vessel.

By cruise

45 minutes from Atomic Bomb Dome to Miyajima. 40 minutes from Hiroshima Station to Marina Hop Ship by bus, then 25 minutes to Miyajima by Marina Hop Ship.

By car

40 minutes from Hiroshima Station. There are some traffic regulations on the island, it is better to park the car at the ferry terminal and take a vessel.
